OUR FOLD
We believe that the most important part of your fold are your foundation
females. We built up our foundation female numbers by visiting many other folds
with a knowledge of what criteria we were breeding for. We have always tried to
combine 'Highland character' with muscling and growth, but never compromising on structure
and fertility. (Our goals in breeding)
Structure and fertility are what allows cows to continue to have calves every year into their late teens without breaking down. It allows bulls to keep serving females into their old age.
Our current list of females continues to evolve but we have always tried to maintain genetic diversity by use of AI sires available in the UK and North America.
Our sires are a mixture of bulls we have bred and AI sires. Artificial insemination using the best bulls from overseas and from Australia allows us to maintain varied genetics but still build on our goals in breeding Highlands.
